About BS EN ISO 14122
BS EN ISO 14122 sets out requirements for the design, construction, and use of permanent means of access to machinery.
All four parts of the standard are:
- Designated under the UK’s Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
- Harmonised to the European Machinery Directive
Correct application of the relevant parts can provide a presumption of conformity to the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) when UKCA or CE marking machinery.
What the Standard Covers
The four parts of BS EN ISO 14122 address:
- Part 1 – Choice of fixed means and general requirements of access
- Part 2 – Working platforms and walkways
- Part 3 – Stairs, stepladders, and guard rails
- Part 4 – Fixed ladders
The white paper explains why compliance with Part 1 and one of the three access-specific parts is essential.
